Breeding pairs

Mini cattle breeding pairs require more than matching a male and female. Identify and assess each animal separately, then review the proposed plan with a veterinarian or qualified breeding adviser. A pair offered together does not by itself establish compatibility, fertility, readiness, or healthy future offspring.
Review the evidence for both animals
Request identities, ages, ancestry, relatedness, relevant genetic laboratory reports, health histories, and reproductive assessments. Ask advisers to explain the risks and limits of the information. Do not treat a particular chondrodysplasia status combination as a blanket guarantee of health or uncomplicated calving.
Prepare the long-term system
Plan safe containment and separation, suitable handling, pregnancy and calving support, the care of future calves, an emergency reserve, and responsible options for animals that do not fit the breeding program. If your goal is companionship, consider whether compatible non-breeding animals are more appropriate.
